Paul Smith is an avid collector of interesting things and I met him at a tour of his studio in London, packed with unusual objects. In conversation Paul learnt that my husband was very small and found it difficult to find the right sizes here. Two weeks later I got a call at the office to say that Paul had kindly sent a suit over from his range in Japan where smaller sizes were available.
As a thank you, we made a joint present for him — a miniature replica of the studio using Japanese newspaper and etched aluminium, dimensioned from the photos I had taken when I visited. The card read ‘You sent us a Japanese miniature suit. To say thank you, here is a Japanese miniature studio’.
